Volunteering at Bykota
Volunteers are an integral part to the operation of the center. There are lots of ways to volunteer. Check the front desk for more information
Staff value and rely on volunteers to create a welcoming and efficient environment. Opportunities for clerical work, hobby leadership, and instruction exist for interested members. Since our council members take part in planning and executing events, volunteers are needed for organizing, cooking, decorating, planning, and setting up. Jobs for volunteers may include member registration, receptionist duties, typing, and other clerical work.
Front Desk Receptionist
Greet members and visitors. Must be able to multi-task by answering phones and fielding questions on a large variety of topics. Register members for classes, write receipts, handle checks and cash. Be aware of any changes in classes or procedures.
Member Registration
Attend an intial “registration class” to prepare for member registrations during the month of October each year. Correct and record member data. Collect enhancement donations for the center. Issue receipts, membership cards and parking permits.
Income Tax Assistance
Be a coordinator for 7 or 8 tax preparers who help low income people complete their Maryland and Federal income tax forms. Keep track of “who is next” on a list of 25-28 people each day from mid-February to early April. Keep a record of which preparer helps which person.
Other Volunteer Opportunities
Opportunities exist in every area of operation; office support, food service, class instruction. Check at the front desk for the first step of volunteer application or email us at bykotasc@baltimorecountymd.gov.
